Talking with WØLFFE

How did you get discovered, and what has been your biggest accomplishment so far?

I was discovered by my management a while ago on Instagram weirdly! I never really used Instagram but I recorded a cover of Nancy Sinatra’s Bang Bang with my friend who put a video up and that’s how things started. Since then I’ve been in the studio, writing, discovering, experimenting and learning. I’ve been on tour, played Shepherds Bush Empire with Hunter Hayes, been to New York and LA, shot a video and have recently had my head in the sand writing and finishing the next releases. My highlight was probably working with Loxe, a producer I’ve loved and admired for a while and writing for Stormzy recently.

Your song “trouble ahead” has gotten a lot of attention, what inspired you to write this song?

Trouble Ahead was written at a time early on last summer when I needed a lot of reassurance in life and in love. When I’m afraid, I usually try and run away when sometimes you need someone to hold you down when things gets hard and say “you know what, everything is gunna be OK”! I think you can take exactly what you want from Trouble Ahead, for me it was really about reassurance. Lying in bed at night and being told, everything’s gunna be just fine. We may be going through a bit of trouble, but everything’s gunna be just fine.

How would you describe your style, and who are your style icons?

My get up right this Spring (although I wear black most days, my inspiration changes on a daily basis) has been more Thelma and Louise than anything else. Maybe Thelma and Louise meets Paris? Lots of t-shirts and big black boots and fur coats (but always wanting to look chic). I wear black most days and haven’t worn a skirt or a dress for about 3 years, I’m definitely a tomboy but I appreciate good design and have an eye for a wicked coat or boot. My style icons are New Yorkers, Keith Richards, Debbie Harry (OK my biggest achievement has to be supporting Blondie on their UK tour with my old rock band when I was 19 I forgot that), Coco Chanel and Alison Mosshart – oh and my step-granny. She’s Swedish and used to be a supermodel and I’ve grown up worshipping the ground (and clothes) she walks on/in. A few incredible pieces like my favourite vintage Chanel boots have made it down to me. Sometimes, it takes nothing more than someone walking past me on the street to inspire my outfit the next day, I can be inspired by anyone.

What are your plans for the future?

I’m going to be releasing new music really soon with videos and amazing clothes in and playing some festivals (including Bestival) this summer. More tunes and more shows, that’s my aim. I want to travel and tour and play festivals and meet interesting people and keep writing songs for the bigger stage.

What are your thoughts on music today?

I think it’s harder to find music I love nowadays I think. There’s a lot of stuff but there’s also a lot of really great music also that still lies fairly undiscovered. It depends on where you go to get your music. I’m a Spotify girl not a radio girl (unless its Radio 6) so I trawl through that to get my kicks. As always, there’s a lot of pop and a lot of samey-samey stuff I’m not into but I usually share stuff with friends and producers who show me new things.
